Vintage GP – Wellington 12th-14th Mar 2021 – Postponed

Hopefully most of you will have received notification of the postponment of our Wellington Event.  It is dissapointing that due to the current Covid-19 alert levels the this meeting has had to be postponed for now.

You can rest assurred we are working with Kartsport Wellington and KSNZ on an alternate date.  Even with a new date proposed we can only hope that the alert levels will allow us to run on the new dates.  We are fortunate that Kartsport Wellington are flexible with dates, and we are not committed to any operational expenses while we work through this.

A decision had to be made sooner rather than later to accommodate all those who are travelling – so bookings can be re-arranged.  These are difficult times and the decision made by your committee was the right one given the Covid restriction regarding personal distancing and overall event attendee numbers, made even more challenging when we have areas of the country at different levels.

Kartsport Eastern Bay of Plenty (EBOP)

We had an invite from EBOP to attend their club meeting on the weekend of 20th/21st February.  It was one of those weekends where the weather was perfect, the hospitality outstanding, and everyone got plenty of track time.

A few of the teams camped on site which made Saturday night a great opportunity to have a catch up, have a few bevies, and tell a few lies which is great as many of you have referred to our meetings as 70% social and 30% track time.  The social aspect of our club is one area the committee is really keen to keep in place and this is one of the considerations we had when looking at Wellington.  It is no fun at all if we have to segregate folk and maintain our social distancing.

Many thanks to the EBOP team for their gracious hospitality, awesome breakfasts, and BBQ on Saturday night.

Upcoming Meetings

  • VKNZ Wellington GP Dates  –  new date to be confirmed
  • KartSport Nelson Meeting  –  24 & 25 April 2021 (date confirmed)

If there are any meetings I have missed, or you are aware of, please contact me and I will include them in the next newsletter.

Kartsport Nelson – 24th – 25th Apr 2021

Kartsport Nelson are holding a meeting in April where Vintage have been invited.  This will be another great meeting if history has anything to go by, and again its subject to any Covid-19 restrictions.

The meeting dates are 24th & 25th April (with the Monday being Anzac Day) so this allows some travel time.  This will be a great chance to support our southern members so put the dates in your calendar.

VKNZ Rules

There have been some changes to a few of the VKNZ rules in the latest round of rule updates published by Kartsport NZ on 26th February 2021.

Please go into the Kartsport NZ web site and familiarise yourself with the changes as our Technical Committee will be ensuring all karts are compliant at our meetings.

The two rules below which have been an ongoing concern will be strictly adherred too:-

V8.1.6    Body Panels:-

Apart from a Nassau panel (front console) must not have any bodywork/plastic.  Exception: For Era5 karts only, period correct side pods are optional.

V8.8   Data/Telemetry:-

Telemetry and data logging are prohibited.  Only instruments fitted to the kart as in the relevant periods are allowed if they comply with the category concerned and have been approved by a Machine Examiner.

Please note that both these rules also include practice and tuning runs.
